Bowmore has collaborated with independent French artist Thomas Vanz in a project that pays homage to the Bowmore Timeless Series. Through the medium of film and art, Vanz illustrates the power of time as captured by this new single malt Scotch release from the Islay distillery in Scotland.
In this special episode of Raw Materials directed by Franck Trozzo Kazagui, Vanz journeys from his studio in Paris to locations across the city that stoke his inspirations. “The artistry involved in the whisky-making process is fascinating and provided me with rich and vivid inspiration to create my unique interpretation,” says the artist, whose award-winning work recreates transient astronomical events with ink, colored pigments, and other natural materials.
Kazagui blurs the film’s perception of scale in a nod to Vanz’s ability to distill macro universes into microscopic worlds. “Through my work, I focused on capturing a galaxy of beautiful chemical reactions to represent the whisky-making process, which is made up of complex movement and colors,” Vanz continues.
Bowmore has been capturing the essence of Islay and creating exceptional whiskies from the shores of its remote island home for over 240 years. Shaped by centuries of skill and tradition, and matured in Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks for 27 and 31 years respectively, Bowmore’s Timeless Series shares many similarities with Vanz’s artistic process; blending art and science with dedication and unwavering attention to detail to create a unique and sophisticated masterpiece.
“This is my interpretation of the Bowmore universe, from where it begins to the final character,” says Vanz. “To collaborate with a single malt with such a remarkable legacy and from an awe-inspiring place is a first for me and I relished the opportunity to explore Bowmore in my own way.”
