“Young people are in a condition like permanent intoxication,” wrote Aristotle in his Nichomachen Ethics, “because youth is sweet and they are growing.” Celebrity photographer Greg Gorman, who has been shooting moody black-and-white portraits of Hollywood’s top personalities (including Johnny Depp, Demi Moore and Dustin Hoffman) since the 1970s, has seen many such young people pass through his studio, some of whom have “grown” into international superstars. Today NOWNESS presents images of future stars in a raw, inexperienced state, taken from Gorman’s upcoming book In Their Youth, which is published by Damiani this month.
