Since they burst onto the downtown scene in 2003 with their eponymous weekly party, New York deejays The MisShapes have been embraced as fashion world darlings. Sharing trademark jet-black hair and icy stares, the trio of Geordon Nicol, Leigh Lezark and Greg Krelenstein would sit comfortably on any catwalk––so it’s understandable Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf tapped the group to soundtrack their “Monsieur” fall/winter 2011 presentation. “We wanted something polished with a classical element, but energetic and contemporary,” they explain. Lezark and Nicol obliged with an eclectic set including Yann Tiersen’s “Comptine d'un Autre été: l'Après Midi,” Rachmaninov samples and Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” from her forthcoming sophomore album Wounded Rhymes. “We wanted to create something beautiful for an equally beautiful collection,” says Lezark. The tracks complemented the twist on contemporary tailoring that Viktor & Rolf ushered down the runway, a parade that included poplin trousers, a grey jogging ensemble, and a single-breasted vermilion suit. Naturally, Lezark and Nicol were outfitted by the designers for the occasion (NOWNESS was there to photograph the pre-show fitting), with Lezark modeling pre-fall tuxedo trousers topped with a white shirt from their capsule collection and Nicol turned out in a "Monsieur" suit.
