Delhi’s most rarefied of sporting seasons culminated in a thrilling grand finale earlier this month when Team Jindal Polo triumphed at the 2011 Cavalry Polo Cup, presented in association with Cartier. Held at the Jaipur Polo Ground in the leafy diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, the tournament kicked off with an exhibition match between teams Nusantara and Rissala. The main attraction followed, with Jindal's Samir Suhag clinching the victory against Carnoustie Cavalry by scoring a tie-breaking goal in the final two minutes. “It was a fierce match—there was a deep-running rivalry out there,” says Maj Adhiraj Singh of Jindal. A sea of white linen and multi-colored saris, the crowd of spectators included Prince Michael of Kent and Quintessentially’s Ben Elliot with new fiancée Mary-Clare Winwood, who chatted to socialite Arabella Stagg over a high tea of cucumber sandwiches and Earl Grey. Cartier CEO Bernard Fornas and mother-daughter model duo Amber and Yasmin Le Bon were on hand to present the cup. Photographer Philip Sinden, a frequent contributor to British Vogue and Wallpaper*, documented the equine extravaganza for NOWNESS.
