Directors Jonas Bang and Søren Rye got a creative free pass when The Lake Radio asked them to make a series of films that distilled their ethic in audio-visual form, which are being premiered over two consecutive weekends on NOWNESS. The Danish duo came up with the idea for this surreal yet educational series of films to chime with the inspiring, educational, surprising sounds that constantly bob up on the radio station itself.

Bang and Ryne spent a long time researching the film's archive footage and the voiceover. “We found the narrator Fradley Garner on Youtube," says Bang. "We met him and learned he was a New York-born jazz journalist living in Copenhagen who had done a lot of voiceover stuff and had worked with some pretty big people." Almost 90 years old, Garner had a hands on approach to the collaboration, helping to write the script for the four films.

Founded by Danish sonic explorers Efterklang together with compatriots in the form of artist Kasper Vang and radio journalist Jan Høgh Stricker, The Lake has afforded the band opportunity to dive into something outside of the repetitive ‘album, gig, album, gig’ strictures of the record industry, and seek new ways of approaching music within our internet-fueled  'Age of Everything.' “It’s overwhelming to have all this access but without guidance, you feel lost and uninspired,” says Efterklang's Rasmus Stolberg. “That’s what we hope to create: this inspiring experience. With The Lake, you can listen to the best sound art at the same time you’re eating breakfast.”

Tune in next weekend for our second double bill from The Lake Radio.
