For the next couple of weekends, let Copenhagen’s The Lake Radio deconstruct the whys and wherefores of sound and music in a series of dream-logic films, starting with today’s kitsch montage about the human ear. The experimental station was launched six months ago by Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg of the Danish indie-rock band Efterklang, who are currently on a hiatus to explore other avenues of creativity, together with artist Kasper Vang and radio journalist Jan Høgh Stricker.
The new platform was named The Lake as a metaphor for what it set out to achieve: a creative pool within which music-obsessive contributors could feed in a flowing stream of beguiling noise. And the idea has taken off, in particular in Copenhagen and also Berlin where the station is also based. The music at Rene Redzepi’s Noma is curated by The Lake. “That’s the interesting thing about Copenhagen, you have guys like Rene around, and this very intense and exciting underground environment,” says Stolberg. “The music scene in Copenhagen is truly inspiring. New projects pop up all the time, so it’s good to to have a little part in getting more people to hear these things.”
Tomorrow on NOWNESS: The Lake: Music.
