Jane Aldridge is the author of cult fashion blog Sea of Shoes, while her mother Judy’s site Atlantis Home spotlights inspired lifestyle finds. These style-minded magpies are also devoted bird watchers, starting with a pair of wrens who serve as unofficial mascots at their Dallas home. “We call them Martha and George—very original, I know,” jokes Judy, referencing the bickering couple played by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the 1966 film Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf (and former US President Washington and his wife). Inside the Aldridge home lies an avian extravaganza: Jane plays dress up in accessories such as a vintage leather belt adorned with a golden gull; Judy displays beaded puffin brooches by jeweler Hannah Bernhard on a silver tray; and the Christmas table is decorated with miniature ornamental peacocks, bird-shaped wine decanters and bejeweled swallows. The Aldridges gave NOWNESS a tour of their winged treasures, photographed exclusively by photographer Jesse Chehak. We were even offered a plate of dove-themed ginger cookies baked by Judy’s youngest daughter Carol—find the recipe here.
