A lone figure prowls a post-apocalyptic landscape in Sam Pilling’s dystopian interpretation of British producer Elliott Power’s latest single, "On The Windrush." Since the start of his career in 2010, Pilling has accrued an impressive list of collaborators, directing music videos for the likes of The Weeknd, J. Cole and even a promo for a song by cult favorite David Lynch screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. “Sam’s dystopian landscape and the alien-like figure in it is a representation of me and the search into my identity,” says the London-based artist. “I have never been subject to any racism or prejudice, but since entering the music industry people have said in jest, ‘don't make you're record sound too white’ or ‘don't make you're record sound too black,’ which was confusing as I don't identify as either white or black, but both.”
This or that: In the studio or in the club?
Elliott Power: I'm 25 years old, I love a good night out where I sweat my tits off in a dingy dark club, but I'd rather be creating in the studio if I’m honest, that's more rewarding for me.
Who would you choose to play you in a biopic of your life, dead or alive, real or fictional?
EP: A young Marlon Brando i'd like to think there is a slight resemblance? (trying my luck) or Alain Delon (because his character in Le Samurai is really cool). Did you know Alain Delon would have been bigger than James Dean but he refused to learn Enlgish.
