Sydney-based Korean photographer and filmmaker Yeoseop Yoon spotlights Australian poet Walter Kadiki in a contemplative short that explores the magic of communication—without a single word spoken. Here, the director talks about his compelling portrait:
"To communicate means so much more than sharing information. The weight of pain we sometimes feel and go through is not often translated into words that confine certain emotions. I sometimes feel like the spoken language as our primary tool of communication is just not enough.
"I like the empty space that poetry has. It doesn’t deliver exactly what it means, it is more about sharing experience. If you have experienced what the writer is describing, then you feel it. I don’t understand the signs that Walter is projecting, but he speaks at such a universal level with his whole body—it feels a lot more clear to me than him letting me know with words."
