On the Greek island of Corfu, Anastasia Miari—one of the Grand Dishes directors—follows her yiayia (granny) as she peels, chops, and cooks a dish perfected by the years and her love of natural ingredients. Living in a tiny white-washed house, Miari's 80-year-old grandmother is wholly self-sufficient, planting by the moon's cycle and making her own oil and wine.
The film was made in support of Miari and co-director Iska Lupton's upcoming Grand Dishes book. “We are on a mission to capture cooking techniques, recipes, and anecdotes from inspiring grandmothers,” say the duo. “This is about strong and stoic women whose love is shared through the dishes they cook that are time-perfected.”
Grand Dishes are currently crowd-funding for the book through Unbound
