New York-based director Chris Shimojima talks about his short film, Do You Like Me Now?, a collaboration with dance and choreography collective Anatomiae Occultii, set to the sound of Russian violist and composer Ljova:
“This was really just an excuse - an excuse to be melodramatic. The choreography made that okay and gave us some freedom, and for me that meant the chance to tell a more symbolic story than I normally would.
"I could compress relationships and emotions into a single moment, and at the same, I could still shoot it like a narrative film —I’m drawn to those contrasts. We could build a love story, but have it give way to a modern critique: the fickleness of attraction and the way people tend to change and mold themselves to be more desirable.”
