Sharing a label with Neneh Cherry and Lindstrøm, Norwegian musician Carmen Villain first spent over a decade as a model before turning to music and releasing Sleeper, an acclaimed debut record of dark Nordic pop and 70s psychedelia.
With another dreamlike release on the longstanding Oslo-based Smalltown Supersound, Carmen Villain — aka Carmen Hillestad — collaborates with Swedish photographer Adina Fohlin on an ethereal tai chi video for "Quietly," featuring a dance interpretation of hypnotic movements by Linnea Martinsson.
"I wanted the visuals for the song to feature movement, and I became obsessed with looking at films of people doing tai chi," says Carmen Villain. "Like getting through difficult things in life slowly, one breath at a time, and then you feel peace."
