Sighing strings, cascading piano tones and pounding tom-toms collide in “Modern Drift,”the latest single from ambitious Danish quartet Efterklang. Taken from their forthcoming album Magic Chairs, the track pushes the orchestral pomp and grand symphonic swoons of the group’s2007 album Parade to hook-laden new pastures, delivering their bombastic brand of indie-pop with a fresh economy that nicely heralds the onset of spring. The accompanying video, a paeon to nature in bloom, was inspired by the 1970s Danish film The Deer Garden: The Romantic Forest, and is directed by Kristian Leth (whose father, Jørgen Leth, directed the original with Per Kirkeby). Magic Chairs is released February 23 by 4AD.
