“Frankie & Levan” is an ode to two queer innovators and icons: Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan. The video sees Witness dancing in an empty subway carriage adorned with posters of the Paradise Garage and covered in graffiti evoking the late, great Keith Haring. The video fizzes with a vital energy with Witness honouring past masters whilst performing with his own flair.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the video Witness says “This video reflects my journey as a queer person. It's also loosely based on the story of Hermes becoming an olympian. I begin the video in a western track suit that I designed signifying my childhood growing up in the heteronormative throws of Texas street culture. As the video goes on, layers of my outfit are removed as symbolic of getting closer to my essence. Finally it climaxes in a big release, followed by a dark final purge of the things that don’t evolve me. I wake up into a place of enlightenment where I'm naked and pure. The story is told not only through the outfit, but of course through my dancing. I perform moves from the scene I was involved in as a teenager called Dallas Boogie as well as Vogueing, Ballet, and James Brown-esque moves. From flexing my muscles, to grinding on arm-rests, I mock conceptions of masculinity allowing myself the space to let both masculine and feminine energies breathe. The fact that I’m on a London Underground train carriage as this takes place emphasises the journey of it all along with the fact that London played a very crucial part in that process for me. From the dancing, to the outfit, to the graffiti, to the song itself, this video is me on a platter.”

The video is directed by David Wilson (Lady Gaga, Christine & The Queens) and is a beautifully queer team-up that honours the LGBTQIA+ roots of dance music.
