Acclaimed Bronx-born photographer Joel Meyerowitz and artist-writer wife Maggie Barrett have been together since a chance encounter 30 years ago. After an accident that leaves Maggie with a broken leg, and Joel as her caregiver, the couple invite filmmakers Jacob Perlmutter and Manon Ouimet to capture their world for new documentary Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other – set for release on 21 March 2025 via Modern Films.

As a couple very much in love, yet strained by the unease in their relationship, an exclusive clip from the film reflects on their attempt to find a shared inner peace, navigating the hard truths of the long and dramatic life now behind them. Offering unique access to their lives, Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other serves as an intimate portrait of living, creating and loving under the shadow of ageing, told through the couple’s unique dynamic, witty dialogue, and personal archives.
