While traveling home on a slightly bumpy flight from Lisbon, London-based still life photographer Aaron Tilley was attempting to eat a meal and drink a glass of wine when his plane experienced a sudden patch of air turbulence.
"Sloshing the wine, I imagined what it might be like if extreme turbulence happened somewhere unexpected, such as in a fine dining restaurant," says Tilley. "I imagined all the chaos it could bring to that formal environment."
Working with food stylist Iain Graham, Tilley throws a veritable feast of salmon, soft boiled eggs, steamed asparagus and fine wines off a table—documenting the drama in hair-raising slow motion.
"I wanted to capture all of the detail in the food elegantly moving and dancing through the air, before ultimately crashing back down," says the artist. "Inviting the viewer to feel like they might be sitting at the table and watching the effects of turbulence happen around them."
