In this film about adolescence and adventure, a pair of twins find expression and solidarity in surfing, while at the same time growing more mature, more responsible, and more at risk.
Inspired by the experience of visiting his older cousins as a teenager in Newport Beach, Director Emmett Malloy remembers feeling nervous and excited about their independence compared to his own. "The kids were free to roam,” recalls the Hollywood-born filmmaker. “If felt like their neighborhood was void of parents.”
“The dads were all ‘working late’ and the mom’s were socialising,” continues LA-based Malloy. “Suddenly I saw high school kids doing coke and mushrooms. They were having sex and expanding my mind—for better or worse. This was the environment we tried to portray in the film: a loss of innocence, a coming of age."
