Those still unfamiliar with the story of the Angulo brothers, introduced via Crystal Moselle’s documentary The Wolfpack, will have to make it their homework in order to get the full context of this emotionally charged short, Window Feel.
Designed, written and directed by Mukunda Angulo, one of the six brothers kept in virtual isolation in downtown New York by their father, the home movie was born in response to “being locked up, staring out a window and watching the world go by,” he says. Featuring members of the immediate family, the film was also influenced by Edvard Munch's paintings and the "hook-rug dance scene" from Twin Peaks.
Having travelled the world with Moselle's astonishing documentary, the cinephile notes of this early endeavor: “It feels quite epic to watch this film because it connects with what’s happening in my life right now. It foreshadowed my future.”
The Wolfpack Show is on at Jeffrey Deitch's New York gallery from October 21–November 1, 2015, featuring original artwork by the Angulo brothers. The Wolfpack is out on DVD now on Magnolia Pictures.
