“I go on tour with the girls whenever possible,” says British photographer Laura Coulson of shooting Haim in their most natural habitat, on the road. “Last year I went to visit them in Berlin for a few days but ended up staying with them for over three weeks.” Coulson first met Alana, Este, and Danielle Haim in 2012, and since then she has documented the rise of the Californian rock band, from their early tours with Florence and the Machine to the release of their brilliantly crystalline debut album, Days Are Gone. After conquering last weekend’s Glastonbury, Haim kick off their summer festival circuit and Coulson’s series celebrates the sisters’ candid off-stage adventures. “It’s been amazing to see them grow as a band from playing in a yard to 20 people at SXSW to Beyoncé at Twickenham Stadium,” says Coulson of the siblings, with today’s behind-the-scenes images captured over the past year across Europe and the US—from Lowlands festival in Holland, Primavera in Barcelona, to a retirement community in Palm Springs. For the summer of Haim, the band divulge their sunshine essentials.
