Great ideas are not so hard to come by. But everything you need to make them happen (budget, time, talent and production team) can be. Frustrated by the number of good concepts he saw going unrealized, Adam Glickman, the founder and former editor of Tokion magazine, created The ideaLists, an open-source community that matches briefs with creative talent and potential clients. The invite-only network—made up of a cross section of individuals from the worlds of entertainment, technology, filmmaking, art, music, fashion and marketing industries—facilitates a collaborative way of working that bypasses many of the layers and systems that exist in the traditional agency model. “It's our hope that by connecting industries that don't normally interact, the opportunities to create all new kinds of work will multiply,” says Glickman. One of the first films, “matched” through the ideaLists, and shown on NOWNESS today, was produced for Incase, the company best known for its neoprene protective coverings for Apple technology. Out of all the responses to the brief posted on the site, Glickman identified three concepts that he thought had potential. Incase immediately decided on the treatment submitted by New York production company Ghost Robot, which was interested in building the reel of one of its young directors, Adam Neustadter. Music—including an original track—was supplied by the Brooklyn-based Telepathe, who also perform in the film. “In the end, the finished product turned out to be a truly collaborative effort between a young director building his reel, a smart client exploring new territories, and a band looking for unique ways to market their music,” says Glickman.
