Artist, filmmaker and writer Kailee McGee takes us on an adventure around Los Angeles in this off-kilter comedy featuring Kate Adams, Anna Cordell and Whitmer Thomas.

When asked about the roots of the film Kailee explains, “The Idea of a You is a celebration of female friendship. Like most of my work, it is very personal, and I use my life as a canvas to blur the lines between what is written and what is real to magnify the intensity and mystery of attraction. The film is also about disappointment — how we fail to live up to our own ideas of who we are and how sometimes other people fail to live up to our fantasized ideas of who they could be.”

“In real life, Kate Adams is one of my best friends and one of my favorite humans. The idea of her doesn’t even come close to the reality of her — how amazing and beautiful and infinite. With Kate, the world is both simultaneously more real and more fantasy. Everything with her feels expansive and cosmic. Together, the day-to-day mundane becomes profound adventure. This movie is a love letter to Kate with her at the center playing a version of herself in a version of a Los Angeles adventure.”

“In the film, three things attract and captivate Kate — a pitcher plant, a comedian, and a song. A certain song can possess you and inspire you and sometimes define a chapter of life. Dresage (aka Keeley Bumford) exquisitely created a centerpiece song “Decorate You” for the film, and she also seamlessly scored the entire piece. Through music I process life, love, heartbreak, and disappointment, and I wanted to bring that into this story. As I write this statement, I am currently listening to my next chapter-defining song on repeat, and who knows what that will inspire and who knows how it’s going to end.”
