Absinthe conjures images of decadent, Belle Epoque writers and painters in Paris: Charles Baudelaire and Toulouse Lautrec were both notorious fans of the emerald liquor. It was outlawed in many countries for much of the 20th century, but since 2007, due to the US rescinding its laws against the potent drink, absinthe has undergone a revival and is increasingly being sought after by those keen to live out their bohemian fantasies. The latest incarnation of the spirit is fenom––a Miami interpretation of the traditional wormwood recipe that comes in a sleek silver bottle designed by Studio Dror (whose previous work includes product design for Alessi and Rosenthal). Targeting the nightlife of the US’s foremost party city, founders Andrew Sperber and Ruben Benharrouch launched the liquor company in May 2010. This fenom-based cocktail, created by mixologist Robert Ortenzio, was unveiled to lubricate the guests at the launch of the Surf the Webster pop-up shop.
