It’s been a fruitful four years since Soko first appeared on NOWNESS, in Spike Jonze and Olympia Le-Tan’s Mourir Auprès de Toi – then returning for roles in the quixotic romantic trilogy: Alien Love, Monster Love and Love Letter. But whatever the project, from starring in and soundtracking Wren’s tantalizing First Kiss video (over 101 million YouTube views to date), to the siren tracklist from her new record My Dreams Dictate My Reality, the singer-songwriter and actress’s joie de vivre is imbued with a sense of raw, post-punk energy.
“Her music has an honesty that is very appealing, she's brave enough to reveal her vulnerabilities and the strength involved is magnetic," says Dael Poulter, director of Dreams Dictate Reality, who followed Soko on the leg of her recent UK tour. "This was heightened when fans were given the opportunity to meet her in person, to cuddle and converse with her. I could hear people confessing the inspiration they had found through her music, referring to periods of pain that Soko's lyrics had helped them through.”
