“I give directors total carte blanche to express themselves using my music as inspiration,” says Rone, aka Erwan Castex, of the Julien + Adrien-directed video for his latest track, “Quitter la ville.” “For me that’s the whole point of this type of collaboration. Either you’re constantly full of inspiration or you’re dead.”

The dance artist teamed up with fellow Frenchman François Marry (of indie band François and the Atlas Mountains) to create a mix of dramatic, chanson-esque vocals and dark, surreal electronics for the track, which features on Rone’s latest record, Creatures

Shot between Dublin’s dilapidated O’Devaney Gardens, a mostly abandoned estate in the Irish capital, and the surrounding rural Wicklow landscape, the emotional impact of “Quitter la ville” (“leaving town”) is even more profound given how the theme reflected the situation of the video’s young stars. “The three characters are local kids who had never been off the estate before the film shoot,” says Rone. “That’s why I found the final scene touching. The smiles are real and so is the sense of freedom.”
