With super-producer Rick Rubin in their corner, a debut album recorded at the mogul’s legendary Shangri-La studios in California in the can, and a backing band consisting of Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning, the Ruen Brothers have come a long way since their days gigging in pubs in Scunthorpe, northern England.
The duo first came to light in early 2013 with the hazy, country-tinged rockabilly of “Aces,” and now real-life siblings Rupert and Henry Stansall are bearing down on a frantic few months that will see the release of the “Summer Sun” EP and festival dates across the UK. Filmmaker Benno Nelson captured today’s live session at Rubin’s Malibu studios, a past recording haven of, among others, Bob Dylan and The Band, Adele and Jay Z.
“Summer Sun” EP is out July 17 on Polydor.
