For those who think of Pablo Picasso as merely the greatest artist to have existed should think again, for the surrealist master extended his craft and created the set and costume design for Jean Cocteau and Erik Satie's ballet, Parade.

Picasso's set design was unlike anything an early 20th century audience had experienced before. The public regarded him as a certified genius of art and design, and the ballet is said to have provoked the first use of the term "surrealism".
