Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have been rocking out together for a decade and a half with The Bad Seeds, Grinderman and The Dirty Three, but for the last few years they have been taking time out from band duties to compose the scores for a slew of films. The first was for John Hillcoat's western The Proposition (the award-winning screenplay for which was also penned by Cave), followed by The Assassination of Jesse James. Most recently, they provided the haunting soundtrack for Hillcoat's screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road, the story of a father and son hopelessly stranded in a cruel, post-apocalyptic landscape. Though some of the film's music was included on White Lunar, a compilation CD the duo put out earlier this year, the full soundtrack to The Road gets a standalone release via Mute Records on January 4. Today, NOWNESS presents A sneak previewe of delicate piano track "The Beach."
