Shot primarily from the passenger seat of various New York taxis over the course of six months, filmmaker and musician John Roberts’ latest video—where he both sat behind the lens and scored the music—cultivates a series of breakneck narratives told through passing cars, strangers bodies, and what the filmmaker himself calls the “disturbing sexuality” of orthopaedic shoes.
Speaking about his seductive paean to New York, the filmmaker and musician explains: “These soft fantasies communicated in the film were designed to be shown as an alternative to the idol worship of conventional live performance, questioning and disrupting the trend prevailing in live music. I chose to focus on egalitarian and contemporary modes of aesthetics.”
