Filmmaker Edward Paginton profiles German electronic musician Nils Frahm during the production of the artist’s latest project—composed within a former East German broadcasting station, Funkhaus Berlin. Combining interview fragments with lingering shots of the eerily empty building, the London-based director captures Frahm’s intensive technique and insights into his creative practice.

Speaking of the ambient musician’s unique combination of classical and digital recording, Paginton explains: “I wanted to create two worlds within the film—shot in 16mm and digital—to respond to Frahm’s indiscriminate and experimental use of sounds, embracing all shapes and textures to produce disorienting soundscapes.”
