Shot in an atomic shelter in Paris and later spliced with archive footage, the latest video from French trio Niki Niki puts an upbeat slant on redaction. Below, lead vocalist Mélodie Orru—who directed the video in collaboration with French director duo Konpyuta—muses on the effect of censorship on creativity:
“I discovered a foreign television program on the internet in which sportswomen were hidden. It seemed as if censorship had undressed them so I had fun imagining: what if we hid all bodies, all situations? What if we hid everything? I noticed that those who want to hide the creative in reality only reinforce it.”
