“Girls with a sexier, fuller figure; girls with pretty hair and lips, lips, lips!” says Belgium-born casting director, and New York fashion industry insider, Natalie Joos, describing the models of the moment. It’s an abrupt reaction to the waves of “size zero” waifs that were marching the catwalks a few seasons ago. But change is always on the horizon in fashion and it’s Joos’s job, casting for clients including Hugo Boss, and magazines such as V and Interview, to anticipate the shift. “There’s a reaction against the beautiful and perfect,” she says. “Now, almost half the shoots I’ve been casting call for real people—characters and unique faces, or models with something a little bit ‘off,’ like a gap in the teeth.” For NOWNESS, Joos selected five fresh, and very different, faces that she anticipates will be competing with the supers this season:

Linn has fantastical, white hair. Even her lashes and eyebrows are naturally white. She is like a character from a fairytale. She is about to shoot for i-D, which should bring her a lot of attention.
Dafne at Ford, from Argentina
Dafne's face is incredible; you just want to stare at it. Her bone structure is amazing and makes her look intriguing and androgynous. Dafne made one of her first major appearances in a Givenchy Fall 2010 runway exclusive.
