Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill’s futurist vision provides welcome respite in a nostalgia-tinged cultural landscape. So it’s no surprise that fledging handbag brand M2Malletier looked to his 1973 masterpiece La Muralla Roja (The Red Wall) when designing the S/S16 collection. The collision materialized in film, when designers Melissa Losada Bofill and Marcela Velez brought on board director Albert Moya to create a mythical tale inspired by the geometric pieces, A Temporal Echo. “We were convinced that there is a way to create short films that depict fashion in a more narrative way rather than simply editorial,” note the designers.

Just over a few years old, M2Malletier showcases the sophistication and craftsmanship of a storied luxury brand: angular lines and distinctive hardware influenced as much by Ettore Sottsass' and Luis Barragan's architecture as Viviane Sassen photography. But Bofill’s striking work, rising from the rocky cliffs of Calpe in the Alicante region of Spain, left their biggest mark on the designers: “We were inspired by every line and texture found in this surreal and magical space.”
