Self-taught filmmaker Yoni Lappin presents an extended cut of a film previously commissioned for our Scenes series. In this version, the London-based director presents a raw, philosophical journal charting the myriad experiences of growing up in modern Israel, profiling the diverse scenes and subcultures that exist across the region—from punk skate collectives to traditional prayer groups. “The country is a complex place with so many different viewpoints and interpretations,” Lappin explains. “I felt this was a story I needed to tell, to capture something honest.

“You are seeing these people come together not only to show their appreciation for the sounds that are influencing them, but who are also beginning to creatively interpret things in their own way,” continues the director. “Originally, this film was simply about youth culture in Israel—but it moved me far more profoundly than I had thought, documenting an exciting young generation from different backgrounds, who have fresh ideas, a sense of empowerment, and an intense energy.”
