Known for creating complex, layered environments that meld organic, structural and metabolic languages, New York-based, Toronto-born artist Lotus L. Kang gives poetic form to reflections on inheritance, impermanence, memory, and translation. Marking Bvlgari’s inaugural showcase as exclusive partner of the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Kang is invited to develop a new installation for the Bvlgari Pavilion – reinforcing the Roman maison’s commitment to creativity as an expression of freedom, instigating dialogues across cultures, innovation, and beauty.
As the major commission takes shape in the Spazio Esedra at the Giardini, Bvlgari centers Kang’s practice and its enduring engagement with questions of "becoming” for the short documentary Meet the Artist – directed by Thomas Gérard.
Observing Kang’s work with unfixed, unstable materials and structures – such as light-sensitive photographic film and sedimentary sculptures that refuse resolution – the film explores how light becomes a medium for reproduction, exchange, and transformation, inviting visitors to experience varied interactions with the exhibit from a space that inhabits a state of in-between.
