Widely known for her video art and photography, which toys with notions of the self, particularly in relation to celebrities, Sam Taylor-Wood chose 2009 as the year for her inaugural plunge into the world of filmmaking. Her debut feature, Nowhere Boy, is a nostalgic and subtly drawn portrait of John Lennon as a young man, shot in Lennon’s hometown of Liverpool and starring rising young actor Aaron Johnson as the troubled musical genius.
