Any music video that opens with the drumming of a military marching band, renaissance paintings, and the skeleton of the blue whale that hangs above the Natural History Museum in London is destined to be a banger. Mercury and MOBO-nominated Little Simz does not fail to impress in visuals for her latest track, “Introvert,” taken from her upcoming album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.

Introvert is a visceral essay about lives lived in the cross-hairs of society, fuelled by fear, exhaustion, frustration, but also a kind of white-hot political awakening. She spits each bar with hypnotizing lyrical dexterity as scenes of corruption, poverty and war play out in short sequences. Little Simz’s urgent mix of social commentary and personal storytelling sends shivers down the spine with the poignant truth of being Black, British, and female at this particular point in time.

From the strings to the bass, the choreography to the historic space, every second of Introvert is unmissable. The director behind these stunning visuals is Salomon Ligthelm, who has also collaborated with other acts such as Young Fathers and The Weeknd. The video features archival footage of protests and social unrest, cut together with masterful dance sequences.

Introvert is a sizzling fanfare marking the much-anticipated return of a defining voice in British music.

Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, will be released September 3rd 2021 on AGE 101
