Shot over a 15-year period, German director Volker Schaner's A Vision of Paradise is a winding portrait of Jamaican musician and producer Lee “Scratch” Perry, who celebrates his 80th birthday next month. Revered for his experimental approach to production—much of which takes place in “The Black Ark”, a purpose-built studio in his backyard—Perry has cemented himself as the grandfather of dub, as well as an outlandish character and style icon. Harnessing the power of positivity, channeled via his lively performances and individual personal appearance, the reggae innovator is on a lifelong mission to change the world with music, or, as he calls it: “vibration”.
Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise is screening at cinemas across the UK, and is available to buy on DVD and On Demand now.
