Lafawndah has released this video for her standout single Daddy, co-directed by herself and Claire Arnold with a palate equal parts chrome and dirt, ice and depth.

The genre-subverting artist is seen dancing with her mother in this video about their shared love of flamenco. "Of all the videos that I’ve made so far," says  Lafawndah. “Daddy is the most directly personal. Probably like most mother-daughter relationships, the link between my mother Zoreh and I has been a complex and dynamic one."

Lafawndah’s finesse with song architecture imbues her debut album, Ancestor Boy, with an uncanny addictiveness; anthems loaded with trap doors. The film, shot in London this spring, features dance performances from both Lafawndah and her mother Zohreh. Ancestor Boy's maximalism serves to amplify the sensation that one body—one lifetime, isn’t big enough for what you’re feeling.
