On the eve of his Texte und Bilder exhibition opening at London's German Embassy this evening, Juergen Teller shares his thoughts on first picking up a camera, working with Céline's Phoebe Philo and how to lead a free life in this intimate short by close friend TJ Wilcox. Known for his raw, overexposed style, Teller is widely considered one of the most influential photographers working today, shooting campaigns for Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as contributing to the likes of Vogue, AnOther Magazine, Purple and O32c. Also currently showing at Lehmann Maupin gallery in New York, Teller’s German Embassy exhibition features extracts from his Texte und Bilder series, in which each picture is accompanied by the photographer’s text explaining the story or inspiration behind it. "Juergen is an honest man, true to himself and his vision, and loads of fun," says Wilcox. "I haven't had the happiest history with heterosexual alpha male types, but my friendship with Juergen has introduced me to the idea they aren't all bad." A successful visual artist in his own right, Wilcox has collaborated with Teller on advertising for Marc Jacobs, including the brand's first ever television commercial for its Daisy perfume.
