Luke and Lucie Meier are the husband-and-wife design duo who have been at the helm of luxury fashion brand Jil Sander since 2017. For their S/S 2020 collection, they invited French photographer Olivier Kervern to shoot their latest collection against a Sicilian backdrop of rustic opulence.
This behind-the-scenes vignette is dreamily structured around Kervern’s sun-soaked anecdotes of the shoot and his ruminations on the uncontrollable nature of photography; an art that captures both iconic moments and ephemeral feeling.
The Meiers speak of a “harmony of opposites” when describing their new collection—where structured tailoring counterbalances fluid feminine forms. Kervern engenders the same approach in his images as he contrasts the models’ delicate silk wardrobe against Palermo’s rigid Baroque buildings. “These photographs are both abstract and sensitive,” says the Meiers, “Sharp, delicate and extremely honest."
