“Elderhood is not for the fainthearted!” says 73-year-old Nora, the subject of a new film from sibling director duo Emily and Alice Stein. Known for their pop-heavy portraits of colourful characters for i-D, Vice and NOWNESS, the project developed initially from a photo series of the effervescent septuagenarian and celebrates the beauty of older women. Here, the dynamic pair talk about the project:

Hello, I’m Nora is a celebration of the beauty and vitality of the fabulous 73-year-old Nora. The film shows Nora dealing with her own perception of age, beauty and existence.

“Women of all ages are so bombarded with ideals which make us over-analyze how we should look and how we should live and behave. Unwilling to become invisible, Nora refuses to regard older age as society suggests that she should.

“Working with Nora on the project felt liberating and optimistic. She seems to come alive in front of the camera. We worked very collaboratively throughout—she even wrote her own VO!”
