Contemporary artist and London-based photographer Harley Weir shares her artistic response to the title track of Leonard Cohen’s last posthumous album, Thanks For The Dance. The image-maker joins an exciting roster of international artists—including director Daniel Askill and multimedia creative Laure Prouvost—who NOWNESS has invited to share their visual interpretations of the musician's life and lyrics in an exciting collaboration with the Leonard Cohen estate and Sony Music Canada.

Weir, whose recent work includes shooting fashion editorials and campaigns for international brands, seduces viewers with her intimate and sensual portrayal of the human body, weaving together visual totems for birth, growth and death.

American actor Rowan Blanchard is the main thread that ties together Weir’s lyrical tapestry. In Thanks For The Dance, the young activist and former Disney star plays a tempestuous bride who is caught between different stages of life. The director polarizes her sexual potential with images of old men cherishing their last moments of virility and with enticing dancers at the peak of their seductiveness.

Adding to the cast is British model, actor and entrepreneur Lily Cole, posing in the style of Botticelli’s Venus and then as the Madonna surrounded by a trio of infants; her arousing silhouette taking on the protective stance of parenthood.

Thanks For The Dance marries Cohen’s distinctive, masterful lyricism with Weir’s fresh and incomparable eye for the expressive and emotive. “I’m a huge fan of Leonard Cohen,” says Weir. “His lyrics are so raw and yet so warm. I am honoured to be a part of his legacy.” This resulting project speaks to the universal appeal and eternal quality of Cohen’s timelessly inspiring music.
