Director Ivan Olita talks about his latest film, which follows a night in the life of Japanese drift racer Morohoshi San, and the touching relationship he has with his prized iridescent vehicle:

“When I first approached the idea of shooting Morohoshi San, I was more intrigued by the illegal car-racing scene in Japan and competition between outlaws.

"However, I soon realized that there was something deeper about him and what he represents. I was less interested in the whole gang of cars and the Tokyo Drift-style scene than the one-on-one relationship he had with this object of desire: his car.

“Instead of having a film addressing a very specific subculture by revealing it to a wider audience, I wanted to do quite the opposite. I wanted to address a widespread human feeling though the lenses of a subculture. To me, Morohoshi’s character is the perfect exemplification of laser-focus Japanese dedication combined with western consumerism.”
