An extraordinary art event took place in the picturesque Hungarian countryside in the late summer of 2021. The one-off exhibition entitled “Szabadon Nő” (Freewoman or Growing Free) by painter Anna Pakosz connected the artist’s work to the deeply peaceful setting of Hi-Hekate meditation center in Káptalantóti.

“My starting point is always observing the world around me. A feeling of deep joy and beauty sweeps over my body and I want to react to it,” says Pakosz, who studied at Jerusalem Studio School and follows the Israeli School of Painting. “I find the human body fascinating. Especially women and dancers. They hold a great inspiration to me and I want to share it. I feel that there is something unexpressed about our joy and freedom that I want to explore.”

Guided by the aesthetic cues of David Hockney, Honor Sharrer and Edward Hopper, Pakosz explores the female experience through an eccentric lens. Her paintings act as a stage for a myriad of impressions, feelings and sensations that she has observed or experienced.

“For me, femininity is about beauty, softness, and recklessness,” the artist says of the subject of her work. “I feel that there is something unexpressed about these qualities that I want to explore and show through my work. In “Szabadon nő” I pose questions on what it means to live freely as a woman and leave the audience to find their own answers. My dream was to create a tangible artistic experience for people”

The Freewoman art experience allowed Pakosz to show others what inspires the paintings. She collaborated with other creatives who brought their crafts to support the evening; meditation, performance art, dance, poetry was rounded off with an al fresco dinner at sunset. This short film captures the energy and conviviality of the day, which will live in the participants’ memories as a unique transcendental experience.
