“I go to Plastic or I stay home and I watch my favourite TV show Day in Court,” says Francesco Vezzoli of his current Saturday night habits. Dedicating his head-turning NOWNESS takeover to the salubrious club, the artist transforms Plastic into a faux talk show, Milanese-style, hosted by long-time friend Ivan Olita.
“If you want to party in Milan, you will end up at Plastic – going there is about being challenged culturally,” says Vezzoli, who once got so drunk on the club’s glamour that he kissed a girl – something he hadn’t done in 20 years. “Plastic has the philosophy of Studio 54: the young, the old, the movie star and the has-been presenter. You will find such disparate – which doesn’t mean desperate, but could mean desperate – groups of people. That’s why I fell in love with it.”
The artist's NOWNESS residency concludes tomorrow with As You Desire Me.
