Martin Parr’s photographs offer an over-the-top take on the garishness of contemporary society. Whether shooting British tourists on the beach (as in his book Think of England, 2000) or gently lampooning the world of glossy periodicals (Fashion Magazine, 2005), his irony and daring use of color are instantly recognizable. In his latest series, Luxury, he turns to a new subject: the high life, documenting people at art fairs, horse races and other extravagant occasions. The photographs are collected in Parrworld, opening at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle, England on October 17.
