Central Saint Martins graduate Vitoria de Mello Franco took inspiration for her latest film after realizing that modern representations of women differ little from those in the era of silent cinema. Addressing an increasingly digitized world—where images and desires flood our senses—Franco questions society's obsession with unreal female figures and the male gaze that constructs them.
The filmmaker, who has a background in art and fashion, asks: "Why can't we explore desirability and promote real women at the same time? Being in front of the camera can be an empowering act, rather than making us vulnerable."
