Amsterdam-based clothing label Daily Paper selects new and influential Dutch creative talents to star in the second chapter of its two-year collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum, which sees the Dutch master’s paintings transfigured into wearable pieces of art.

Daily Paper has grown from an online streetwear and lifestyle blog into an internationally recognized fashion label that retains the African roots of its founders’ shared heritage. The featured artists, who are redefining modern art from a uniquely Afrofuturist perspective, include dancer and choreographer Christian Yav, visual artists Marlou Fernanda and AiRich, fashion designer Bodil Ouédraogo, and interviewer Jamal Jama.

In a series of off-screen conversations that weave through the film, the artists discuss their personal experiences and creative processes that have been inspired by their collective cultural links to Brazil, Curaçao, Congo, Burkina Faso, and East Africa.

For the campaign, they each wear a garment from Daily Paper’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection; bringing Pointillism and watercolor to bold panel shirts and puffer jackets. The exclusive clothing line features a mix of iconic and lesser-known works by Vincent Van Gogh, such as The Potato Eaters (1885), Vase with Gladioli (1886), and Glass with Yellow Roses (1886).

While exploring the museum's collection, the artists draw parallels between themselves and Van Gogh as a self-taught painter with a tireless commitment to personal expression. To admire Van Gogh as the art world's most influential underdog is to celebrate his unique vision and diversity of thought; a perspective shared by Daily Paper and demonstrated by its knowledge that the youth of today will define the art traditions of tomorrow.
