For the latest release from Australian composer and pianist Adrian Klumpes, Malta-based director James Vernon captured the balletic moves of American dancer Kevin Tate in a stirring night dance. Here, Vernon talks about the project:
“Kevin Tate moved intuitively to Klumpe’s deeply foreboding track, effortlessly creating a narrative arc through movement and expression—enhanced by the use of darkness and light.
“I lit the background and had Tate in silhouette for the majority of the dance, creating an underlying tension and ambiguity. Towards the end of the performance, Tate steps into the light and his vulnerability is quite literally on display.”
