The French director explains the significance of her lakeside snapshot:
“I like the idea that a lake can be worrying but also soothing, depending on your point of view. Through Marla, I wanted to tell the story of a woman that must learn to let go through a dreamlike journey or some kind of a revelation, with each person left to make his or her own interpretation. I had already worked with model Marla Fabri on a photoshoot, and wanted a simple black and white outcome— without any amendments to skin or any effects—just something pure.”
